Inner solidarity: one hand in the face of adversity
1. Solidarity during forest fires: In recent years, Algeria has witnessed several waves of forest fires, especially in the wilayas of Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, El Tarf and Skikda. In these crises, the spirit of solidarity was manifested when citizens from different states flocked to help, whether by sending food supplies, donating money, or even traveling to affected areas to help put out fires and evacuate residents.2. Supporting needy families in Ramadan: During the holy month of Ramadan, Algerians are organizing large-scale solidarity campaigns, including the distribution of Ramadan gabions containing basic foodstuffs, as well as collective iftar tables held in mosques and streets for the poor and passers-by.
3. Helping those affected by floods: When floods occur, as happened in Tamanrasset province in 2022, citizens and associations rushed to organize aid convoys containing blankets, potable water, and food to support families who lost their homes due to torrential rains.
4. Solidarity in health crises: During the Corona pandemic, Algerians once again demonstrated their great solidarity, as citizens raised funds to buy oxygen concentrators and medical equipment, and many young people contributed to street sterilization campaigns and distributed masks free of charge to citizens.
5. Helping the sick and needy: Donation campaigns are widespread in Algeria to treat patients, especially children who need expensive surgeries inside or outside the country. In addition, blood donation campaigns are witnessing a high turnout, especially during periods of health emergencies.
External solidarity: Algeria stands with brotherly peoples.
1. Support for the Palestinian cause: The Palestinian cause is one of the issues that enjoys wide solidarity from Algerians. For decades, Algerians have expressed their support for Palestine by denouncing, collecting donations, and sending humanitarian aid. Palestinian flags are also being hoisted in Algerian stadiums and direct aid is provided to the Gaza Strip.2. Helping African refugees: Algeria hosts a large number of African refugees, especially those from Sahel countries such as Mali and Niger. Popular solidarity with them is highlighted through the provision of food and assistance in social integration, as well as support campaigns organized by charities.
3. Sending humanitarian aid to disaster-stricken countries: After the Beirut port explosion in 2020, Algeria sent planes loaded with humanitarian aid, including food, medicines, and medical supplies. Algeria also contributed aid to Libya after Hurricane Daniel in 2023, sending rescue teams and relief aid to those affected.
Algerian solidarity is a deep-rooted culture: Solidarity is an integral part of Algerian identity, as people come to each other's aid within the country, and their support extends to brotherly and friendly peoples when needed. Whether in natural, humanitarian or political crises, Algerians are proving that solidarity is not just a slogan, but a way of life inherent in their culture and values.
